Member’s Pond – Tench Back on the Bite

18th May 2024 – Tench back on the bite

Club member Dave Martin was on his first Members Lagoon session of the season when he landed this lovely 4lb 7oz tench.  Floatfished red maggots was the successful tactic but despite tench bubbling nearby Dave failed to catch any more.

Three years ago Dave landed a tench of 6lb 3oz at the IAA Members Lagoon and in mid-June 2023 committee member Sean Hinchliffe landed one of exactly six pounds. This was a different fish to Dave’s six pounder. So Dave and Sean are now hoping for a seven pounder.  The pond is very rich in natural food and being only lightly fished, ie. not much bait is going in, the tench are growing well on this natural food supply.  Blanks are to be expected but the rewards for perseverance are worth the wait.

The Members Lagoon is a weedy water so it may be necessary to rake your chosen swim before fishing.  And it is advised to use a minimum six pound line in order to give yourself a good chance of landing the fish you hook.
